Densitometry (DEXA) – Bone Density
A Bone Density or Densitometry uses low dose X-rays to measure bone density and detect osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition that often affects women after menopause, but can be found in men also. If your bone density is found to be low, you are at an increased risk of fracture.
Examination Process
The exam takes about 20 minutes. You will lie on a padded table with an X-ray generator below you, as the X-ray arm will pass over your body. This test focuses on the spine and hip where most osteoporosis-related fractures happen. It is important that you lie as still as possible during the test. A Technologist will be present during your entire scan.
Once your scan is complete, a copy of the interpretation will be sent to your physician.
Once your physician has had ample time to review the interpretation, he will contact you to discuss the results.
Please feel free to contact us if you should have any questions about your scan. We will be more than happy to assist you in any way.
